It’s official. My writing has been judged to be Childlike – you know, as in something a Child might like. This is very good news when the Child in question happens to be Lee Child, best selling creator of the Jack Reacher franchise.
The opening pages of not one, but two of my novels feature in this anthology of Top 100 opening gambits as judged by Lee Child.
This book will be of interest to aspiring crime writers and anyone who ever wondered how authors like Lee Child manage to grip their readers right from the first paragraph.
Available now direct from the publishers and in all good bookshops this summer.
Reveal easy to find easter egg for ScribeLoungers & budding screenwriters
As you know, Lee Child’s Reacher novels have been adapted for the big and small screen (two feature films and two TV series). I also write screenplays, and that got me wondering what Crimebits would like on screen.
Well, I guess it would be a fly on the wall documentary that captures a round table discussion between a couple of studio execs and professional screenwriters. One of the execs would be a lot smaller than expected (sorry Tom, I couldn’t resist an in-joke about casting). Instead of novels, they’d be discussing the paramount importance of the first page of your screenplay. I imagine their discussion might take the format of the writers comparing the first pages of two scripts, one from a seasoned pro and one from an upcoming amateur. They’d have to judge blind which is which and justify their choice to the viewers.
Well, look what I’ve found for you. Turns out my imagination was spot on. Check this out – it’s fascinating and insightful in equal measure. Oh, it’s fun too if you use the pause button and play along.
